Furniture as Art and Investment

Highlights of the High Point Furniture Market this October included some very special pieces. The most memorable was a one-of-a-kind table with handcrafted iron base and an irregularly shaped top of gorgeous petrified wood (legally obtained). Imagine it in your foyer, needing no accessories! However, you may never see it in a store as the only one available was purchased off the showroom floor by a designer for his own use. If another one hits the retail market, it is likely to be priced in the neighborhood of $40,000.00

Innovation in upholstery brought us two Yin Yang sofas; one indoor and one outdoor. Swaim’s indoor selection was stunning with one section in white and one in black.

Janus et Cie presented the outdoor version.

We are still reviewing digital photos and filing the new catalogs that are full of beautiful, glittery furnishings and accessories in all the latest colors. Have a void to fill? Give us a call and don’t forget to check the website for more reviews of High Point favorites!

Thinking Green

We are pleased that many of our clients who are remodeling or redesigning their homes and offices are doing their part to help the environment and others. Habitat for Humanity has been given cabinets, appliances, windows, counter tops and other very usable products for a second life at their projects. Also, furniture has been donated to group homes in Fairfax County. These actions spare the landfills and help improve the lives of others as well. We have fabulous clients!

Breaking News

Carolin was recently presented with the Chapter Medalist Award by the Washington Metro Chapter of the American Society of Interior Design (ASID).

Introducing Beth Leas, ASID

Beth Leas joined Design Exchange in January of this year. She brings a varied background in design to the firm. Beth is very talented and attentive to clients and has eight years experience that includes residential and commercial design and renovation. She loves renovating older homes, making them livable and up to date while maintaining the history and personality of each one.

Does Interior Design Help Sell a Home?

The real estate market can be less threatening to some than others. Three Design Exchange clients have placed their homes on the market in the past few months. All three of them went to prompt, successful settlements! One of these homes was the recipient of a design award from the Washington Metro Chapter of ASID and was published in Home and Design Magazine. Clearly, the answer is yes! Interior design does help sell a home. Equally important, it helps make life more beautiful while one lives there.

Imported Products Have an Impact

Imports eliminate American jobs. They adversely effect the environment using high volumes of low grade diesel fuels to transport products long distances by ship. Long lead times are frequent as goods are “on the water” or going through customs. Our firm supports American manufacturers. Imports are selected when a unique item is the perfect answer and the designers are confident that the product is expertly manufactured by an ethically responsible firm.
